The stress from losing a spouse is real and worthy of our attention

When we lose a spouse, it is all too common that we neglect our own physical and emotional health. The stress from losing a spouse is real, significant, and worthy of our attention.

For decades, health practitioners have employed a stress evaluation tool called The Social Readjustment Stress Scale, which weighs the stress impact of 43 different life events. Also known the Holmes and Rahe Stress Scale named for the psychiatrists who designed the test, each life event has a different ‘weight’ score for stress.

On a scale of 1 to 100, the only life event that assigns a stress score of 100 is “the loss of a spouse.”

Beyond the need to connect, W Connection helps our members get educated about the impact of becoming widowed on our physical and emotional/social health, as well as our financial health.

The W Connection Wellness Webinars and Workshops are the cornerstone of our Educational Programming. Every month we offer new learning opportunities available to all our members. Our events for the month are found on our Find a Meeting Page

Beginner’s Yoga in a Time of Advanced Thinking was conducted by our own W Connection member and Registered Yoga Teacher Aliza Marlin. Her yoga practice gives her strength, stamina, confidence and clear-mindedness–all of which were challenged when her husband of 18 years died very suddenly in July 2018.  Aliza’s session was nothing short of inspiring!
